SISD received its shipment of SMART Boards. Over the next semester, they will be installed in classrooms throughout the district.

The boards, along with new projector systems, are a step up from the traditional chalk or white boards currently used. With the new technology, presentations, notes, and lectures can be displayed for the class. The system is linked to a local computer in each classroom, allowing the teacher to integrate multimedia into their daily lessons. What is displayed on the computer screen is projected onto the board, but the system is more than a screen and projector system.

SMART Boards can also respond to the teacher’s touch with specialized pens that come with each unit. This way, the instructor can draw, write, or activate icons on the board, similar to touch screens. This changes the board from a simple screen to an interactive educational tool. Combined with a computer and network access, these boards become a portal to learning and information from around the globe.
