hi my name is Joe flurry with teoma systems we are an IT solutions provider located in the Detroit Michigan area and today I'm going to be showing you how to use your Avaya J series telephone now we're going to break the videos down into three separate parts in the first video will be talking about the buttons located at the base of the phone physical buttons and our second video will be talking about the buttons located up here on the display and talk about basic call handling features and the buttons you see most commonly programmed up on the display of your telephone in our third video will be discussing the voice messaging application on the telephone that being said we can go ahead and get started here is the Avaya j179 but really the things were going to talk about would be applicable for not only the j179 but also the j169 and the j139 on the bottom right-hand corner of the day where you can see we have a speakerphone button when you press that pretty obvious it's going to launch your turn on your speaker phone press it again you'll turn your speaker phone off you can also just start dialing and you can see that it's going to automatically activate that speakerphone for me located above that we have a headset button there is a headset port on the back of the phone it has an icon on it that looks just like this icon and basically when I press that it's going to send that Deltona out to my headset again will turn that off if you have a wireless headset by pressing the button on your wireless headset it'll automatically turn this button on and off for you if I happen to be on a speaker phone call and I press one of my volume control buttons it's going to adjust the volume of my if I have the answer to my ear that's in the control the volume I hear in the handset and when the handset is Idle like it is right now it's going to control the ringer volume located below that we have a mute button so if I was on a speaker phone call for example and I hit that new fun anytime you see that button lit up blue that's muting your microphone so basically you can still hear the caller but the caller would not be able to hear you and you can certainly use that button when you active on the handset or if you had a headset call the dial pad pretty obvious right that's used to make her phone calls most systems do require the use of a dial out code generally that code is either an eight or nine that just indicates to the system that you are looking to make an outbound call you can check with your system administrator they should be able to let you know if a dial-up code is required and if so what button is program is that dial out internally obviously you can just dial the extension number of the person you want to reach without the need to dial a download code moving on up we got the contacts button here when I press this contact button it's going to launch the contact menu on the display and you can see up here it's showing me that I'm currently doing all the contacts available on this device I've also got a left and right arrow button visible that are telling me that I can use my left and right buttons here receive more pages of information so if I hit my right button I can see just my personal contacts right button again all my external contacts these would be system-wide speed dials programmed in the system Ripple again just my users right button again got my groups and now we're back to all the contacts on the device but I can certainly use my up and down arrows to scroll and see different people on the system or I can use my dial pad to search this as well so I were to hit you can see it's matching to anything that has that as part of the name so I'm getting the conference room computer room and the basement computer if I get clear it's going to take me back out through my search results that the biggest thing on this device is to pay attention to these four buttons located beneath the display as you're doing different things on the phone these are like your built-in help buttons that show you what iPhones are currently available so I'm going to go ahead and search that again enough I want to make a call to the conference room I could either scroll down to it and it called or I can certainly just press the button located next to the the person that I want to call hear it would call them as well I can't detail that's going to show me a little bit more information about that that user once I'm in there now you can see that they did change I can go back to that list once again I can clear out my search results so the other thing you may want to do here is hit your right arrow you can see when your personal contacts you get the ability to add a new one so personal contacts are just contacts it show up on your device and your device only I can hit new here I could put in a name using my dial pad so I'm going to hit the 6 for the M22 for the day I'm going to hit the seven three times to get an r and I'm going to the five twice to get a k noticed the spacebar indicator over the 0 I can press that to get a space and then I can put in a last name if I wanted to when your programming your number make sure you do include that system dial out code if it's an external phone number to putting in so I'm going to go ahead and put in a number here and I'm going to hit save and now I've got a new personal contact and you'll notice that once you create a personal contact it will show up in the list of all the contacts T-Mobile on the device now your system white contacts those are programmed by the system administrator and those will show up on all of the phones on the system you may notice me hitting this button this button takes me back out to my name take me back out to my main screen so anytime you press that if your if your display you just want to get back to your main button screen you're going to hit this it brings back I like to think of it as a home button that's what this button is going to do 4 a.m. all right moving on over here we've got our caller ID log button so if I press that it's going to watch the caller ID log on the device again I've got a left and right arrow button that are showing there's more pages of information available right now I'm seeing all my caller ID history if I get my right there I'm just going to see my missed calls red arrow again my incoming calls one more time I get my outgoing calls and then back to that man caller ID log list again paying attention to these buttons I can see that there are more options available I can hit. well that's going to show me the time the date in the duration of that call I can hit call Little call that number back I can hit delete to remove that entry from my caller ID list one other thing that's kind of nice in here is you can get more and you can have plus contacts so Prince let's say you had a missed call from somebody and you wanted to take their name and their phone number from that caller ID login add it to your personal contact list so you could go to that call you can hit plus contact and it's going to grab that name and that phone number and allow you to modify it if needed so I could go drop a 9 in front of the number and then save it and now if I go back to my personal contacts you can see that it took that name and it brought it right into my personal contacts in this case I'm going to hit more. delete and it's going to remove that entry but that's a convenient way to bring information from your caller ID log over into your personal contacts without having to use the dial pad to type the name in manual did I get back out to arm play up here we've got our menu button on the phone if I press that it launches the menu and allows me to go in and view information about the device and kind of personalized little bit the main thing with in settings so if I go into settings we get some sincere for phone where you can control where the calls alert on probably not what you're going to do in there audio I can turn the button clicks on the device on and off the main thing you would use in here if you scroll all the way down to the bottom of God is ringing this allows you to differentiate the ringtone on your device from maybe the person sitting next to you so I'm going to go ahead and hit select and this allows me to go ahead and here are the different ringers available on the phone and then select the one that I want to make active once I hit select I could save and now I've just changed the ringer on my device we're going to back out of this menu go down to this place and here you can change the background that we're seeing on video so I can change it to dark that's tractors several available so we'll go ahead I'm going to just leave mine at the default once you make your selection you would have saved and that would change that background that you're sitting on the phone the screen saver same is different screensavers available on the device you can go ahead and select which one you like can I just save it this says this is the setting of tells us how long until the device is going to enable that screensaver. play timer so at some point 120 here by display would actually dim just a power saving mode that will go into so you can in this menu to customize your phone really you you probably won't have much need to go to the other one so mainly you'll be in the settings menu here go ahead and back out the voicemail button we're going to talk about voicemail on a separate video so I'm not going to go into that that pretty much covers the buttons down on the bottom of the display here again you've got your speakerphone your mute button your volume controls your dial pad your caller ID log the menu button on the phone the contact button and this is our home button it just gets us back out to this main display thanks for what and we'll talk about the options available up on the display of the phone in our
