May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month! With over 5 million cases diagnosed each year, skin cancer is America's most common cancer. Please look at the link skincancer.org to learn more about this cancer and how to prevent it. Most importantly, choose the correct sunscreen for your children! Choose formulas free from oxybenzone and octinoxate and look for mineral based formulas containing zinc oxide and titanium dioxide which are recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation. These minerals create a physical barrier on the skin's surface, reflecting the damaging UV radiation, instead of absorbing it like chemical sunscreens.
